The EPL contacts the IPL for a possible buyout of a cricket team

The Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi has confirmed interest from a Premier League club to buy a stake in one of their cricket teams. According to Modi the club is famous and ‘probably’ in the top three of the English Premier League.

Considering the financial crisis that most of the clubs are going through, there is only Manchester City and Chelsea who fit the bill. If we look at the top six we have Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur who are out of the equation due to their respective financial  issues but Chelsea and Manchester City are financially strong and hence top contenders. Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour is currently based in Abu Dhabi and had expressed his desire to invest in other sports. The starting price bid for a cricket franchise starts at £143million

Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi quotes:

"I can confirm an English Premier League club has approached us about buying a team. There is a very famous football club in the UK very interested in bidding.

"(They are) probably one of the most famous football clubs - probably top three. They are interested in taking a stake."
