Olympiacos has completed the transfer of Albert Riera from Liverpool for a record £5.2 million

Spanish International Albert Riera Ortega has signed for Greek club Olympiacos F.C. for an estimated £5.2 million, which could rise up to £8.5 million plus another £1.6 million in bonuses.  With this transfer Albert Riera becomes the most expensive player Olympiacos has ever bought via the transfer window.

In 2008, Liverpool spent £8 million for Riera from Spanish outfit Espanyol. Under Rafa Benitez, Albert Riera played a total of 55 matches and scored 5 goals for Liverpool.

On 18 March 2010, Albert Riera was suspended by manager Rafa Benitez for his comments made to the media and was subsequently dropped from the Liverpool squad.

Olympiacos finished second in the 2009-10 Super League Greece, six points behind eventual winners Panathinaikos. With International names like Kevin Mirallas (Belgium) , Wanderson (Brazil), Dennis Rommedahl(Denmark), Ariel Ibagaza (Argentina) and François Modesto (France) being included in the current squad,  Olympiacos will be giving stiff competition to rivals Panathinaikos for the 2010-11 Super League Greece title.
