Nemanja Vidic has agreed to stay on for another four years with the Red Devils.
Vidic’s future with Manchester was under a cloud of doubt with teams such as Real Madrid reportedly keeping tabs on him. However, the centre back, who became one of the Red Devils in 2006 has signed on the dotted line, thus slashing rumours of a move away from Old Trafford.
Ferguson insists that when players perform better, it becomes increasingly difficult to tie them down with the team as they look for better opportunities. Ferguson, thus, seems to have achieved a big task by convincing Vidic to stick around with Manchester United for another four years.
With recurring fitness problems hitting the performance of the team, the Serbian surely has the potential to boost the morale of the Red Devils. It is no surprise then that Ferguson seems to be the most delighted.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s Comments:
"In the modern day game it is not easy renewing players' contracts when they do well, particularly those from other countries.”
"Over the last year or so there has been speculation about Nemanja time and time again, sometimes by the press, sometimes fuelled by other sources. But we never had a strong feeling he really wanted to leave. There is always concern if they do well they want better contracts.”
"At the end of the day we have managed to achieve the task of getting him to agree a four-year contract.”
"We are delighted, he is fantastic centre-half, a great competitor with a marvellous attitude to winning games. It strengthens our hand."
