Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-0 at Stamford Bridge as Didier Drogba scores a brace against the Gunners
Arsenal started this London derby with ‘no strikers’ on the pitch as Theo Walcott was just a mere spectator the time he was on the field. Chelsea's counter attacking football was at its very best which proved to be a massive headache for the Arsenal defenders for the entire 90 minutes. Ashley Cole and Nicolas Anelka were playing against their former club Arsenal whereas on the other side William Gallas looked like he was doing the same.
Didier Drogba opened the scoring in the eighth minute with the assist coming in from former England captain John Terry. The Ivory Coast International struck again in the 23rd minute mark to make it 2-0 for the Blues. At this point of time Arsenal were trying their best to make a game out of it but Chelsea held the Gunners back every time they tried to attack. Arsenal just could not penetrate through the Chelsea defence and failed to score yet again against the Blues. In the 84th minute Drogba was denied a hat-trick as his splendid free kick came off the crossbar.
Referee Mike Dean had a fantastic game as he allowed free flowing football during the entire match and his decisions were absolutely spot-on. With that 2-0 victory, Chelsea have now done the double over their London rivals Arsenal this season. Didier Drogba takes his goal tally to 17 in the 2009-10 English Premier League season so far, four goals behind leading goal scorer Wayne Rooney.
Arsenal are now nine points behind leaders Chelsea and with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Aston Villa trying to book their Champions League spot, Arsène Wenger will definitely be under tremendous pressure.
